Exclamation Forum Rules - READ ME before posting

Welcome to the official Nintendo 24/7 forums! We're glad to have you on as a member, and request that you take the time to review the following before taking the plunge and posting - following these rules will help make everyone's experience here informative, interesting, and fun.

The Warning System
Breaking the forum rules will result in your post receiving a "warning." Different offenses warrant different kinds of warnings, and getting enough of them will land you a ban. Please click this link to read the specifics regarding warnings.

General Guidelines
  • Respect the moderators, they are working for you. Never confront a moderator in an open forum. If you feel a moderator is acting inappropriately, please contact a different moderator or the community manager via private message.
  • Respect the community. Disparaging comments towards other members, moderators, or Nintendo 24/7 and its affiliates will not be tolerated. If you can't say something that contributes to a thread and is tactful, useful, or relevant, it's best that you don't post.
  • Respect yourself. Follow the forum guidelines. Make sure you post constructively; try to use proper grammar and spelling and to contribute positively to the community. Don't engage in flame wars or pointless arguments or spam. Avoid posting in all caps or an otherwise irritating fashion.
Multiple Accounts
Do not register multiple accounts. If you are banned and register a new account, that account will be banned as well. If you register any duplicate accounts for any reason, those accounts will be banned and you will be warned.

Posting Guidelines
Violations of the following rules will result in moderation actions.
  1. Post constructively. When posting a thread/response, ask yourself a few questions. "Does my thread/post contribute to the community/topic at hand?", "Has this already been posted before and is it in the right place?", "Is my thread funny, interesting, or informative?" If your thread/post doesn't meet the requirements, DON'T POST IT.
  2. Avoid making multiple threads on similar topics. Consolidate your ideas into one thread; multiple postings are frowned upon.
  3. Stay on topic. All posts and discourse should be kept on-topic and in the appropriate forums. Do not derail threads.
  4. Keep content appropriate. Do not post inappropriate images or text, be intentionally offensive to other members, or discuss illegal activity. If in doubt, do not post or PM a moderator first.
  5. Sensitive topics. When discussing sensitive or controversial topics, like politics or religion, respect others involved in the discussion. Bigotry, flaming, immaturity, and disrespect will not be tolerated at all.
  6. Media Theft. There will be no promoting piracy, illegal hacking of software, or media theft of any sort; links leading to such content will not be allowed, nor will requests for any sort of crack or illegally obtained software. No exceptions. If you post a link to or otherwise provide illegal content, you will be permanently banned. If you ask for help pirating something or otherwise promote piracy, you'll be warned severely.

In addition, posting magazine scans or leaked content is not allowed. If you do this, you will receive an "Inappropriate Content" warning and the content will be removed.
  7. Unintended Cheats. Do not post anything relating to cheats in games that are not intended or supported by the developers.
  8. Images. Do not post annoyingly large images. Either link them in your post or resize them to no more than 800x600.
  9. Old Threads - don't "bump" threads that haven't been posted in in more than a month. It's bad practice. Make a new thread or don't post.
Other Rules
  1. Do not impersonate a Nintendo 24/7 employee, forum moderator, admin, or other forum member. Usernames doing so will be banned and posts deleted. Remember: the forum username of admins (generally Nintendo 24/7 employees) are green and moderators are purple.
  2. Keep signature and avatars to a reasonable display and file size. We are now enforcing:

-images: images may take up no more than a CONTIGUOUS 620px by 150 px block (all the images must be together AND within a 620x150 block, you may not spread your images out in your signature). Any images must be within the 620 X 150px block.

-filesize: total size of images in the signature should be no more than 75k

-avatars should be no more than 50k is filesize

-If you have no image in your signature, you are allowed five lines of text. If you do have an image, you are allowed three.

    - Sound use in signatures: Sound is allowed, but the sound has to be turned on and off through buttons. The sound may not start automatically and there has to be a way to turn it off. Users must also know the signature contains sound beforehand.
Insta-bans

Permanent IP bans will be issued for the following. Once a user is IP banned, they may no longer register new accounts following a permanent name ban. All users who have been permanently banned in the ban bin will immediately be IP banned as well. IP bans can be issued for other serious situations when a moderator deems it necessary, though most bans will be handled through the warning system.

-Spam attacks; a user who intentionally spams the forums, creating many contentless topics rapidly to impair normal forums activity.

-Accounts registered solely for advertising or dummy accounts registered for other reasons (each user is allowed one account).

Opening and Closing Threads
Opening threads
If a moderator has closed a thread (if you are the author of a thread and you haven't locked it, but you find that it has been locked), DO NOT RE-OPEN IT. You will be banned for this kind of abuse immediately.

Closing threads
Remember to post an explanation of WHY you have closed the thread so other users don't open up threads to ask why or continue discussing your topic.

Use common sense. Ask yourself "Would a moderator close this thread?". This option is enabled so that you can help cut down on spam and keep the forums cleaner yourselves. If a moderator thinks a thread should not have been closed, he or she will reopen it and post why he or she has done so. If you feel the need to argue, PM the moderator and keep it out of the thread. Blatant abuse of closing threads will result in temp bans, repeated abuse will result in permabans or the removal of the feature altogether.

Thank you for taking the time to read the rules, and welcome again to the Nintendo 24/7 community! We hope that you will enjoy your time here. Happy posting!
